Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes! Consultations are free 15-minute phone calls that offer us a chance to learn a bit more about one another. During this time, we will learn a bit more about your counseling goals and determine if we are a good fit for what you are looking for. We focus on building an authentic relationship with our clients. This makes initial consultation phone calls imperative to the practice.
How can I request an appointment?
You can request a new appointment here. Or, feel free to contact us online or call us at (828) 367-9585.
How much do sessions cost?
Both individual and couples counseling costs $250 per session. At SF Counseling & Wellness, we specialize in relationship struggles and trauma therapy, and our session rates reflect our experience, training, and the quality of care we provide.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we reserve two openings on our calendar for clients who would like to use insurance to help pay for therapy.
We do this because we recognize that insurance can make therapy more accessible. At the same time, using insurance often comes with limitations, such as requiring a mental health diagnosis and allowing insurance companies access to certain clinical information, including documentation related to care.
At SF Counseling & Wellness, we specialize in relationship struggles and trauma therapy, and our session rates reflect our experience, training, and the quality of care we provide. Still, accessibility matters to us. Offering a limited number of insurance-based spots allows us to make our services available to more people while continuing to provide thoughtful, specialized care.
Availability for insurance spots may vary, so please reach out to ask whether one is currently open.
We currently accept BCBS and Aetna.
How often will we meet?
As Trauma and Relationship specialists, we focus on the importance of building an authentic relationship with all of our clients that feels safe, authentic, comfortable and honest. In order to develop this type of relationship and dig deep with past experiences we will meet with our clients weekly.
What is the difference between Relationship counseling and Couples counseling?
Good question! Relationship counseling focuses on your individual experiences with relationships in your life. This is done by examining your attachment style, how you connect and show affection to others, and how these connections affect your connection with yourself and your sense of authenticity.
Couples counseling is done with you and your partner. Exploring how your individual life experiences may be affecting how you both interact with one another. Exploring the ways in which you can find deeper connection and healing together.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a very unique form of therapy that differs from talk therapy dramatically. This form of therapy tends to work well for clients who are feeling a standstill in traditional talk therapy or feel as though they’ve talked through the experiences or worries, but are still struggling to feel resolved or manage triggers.
EMDR works well for a myriad of things including trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, attachment wounds, anxiety, phobias etc.
EMDR differs from traditional talk therapy by relying on bilateral stimulation of the brain to reprocess memories that are emotionally charged and causing symptoms present day. For example, if you survived a house fire, you may notice that you feel stressed or sad when thinking about the memory. Additionally, you may notice your heart rate going up when you smell smoke.
With EMDR, we would reprocess the trauma of living through a house fire in order to fully resolve that memory in the brain. Afterwards, you will be able to recall the house fire and recall all of the emotions from it, but you won’t actively feel sadness or stress when reflecting on the memory. Additionally, you won’t have the same symptoms caused by the memory. You will no longer feel stressed when you smell smoke.
EMDR is a fantastic form of treatment, although it isn’t for everyone and takes time to jump into. To see if you’re a good candidate, reach out for a free consultation online, or via phone call at (828) 367-9585.
What can I expect to get out of therapy?
Therapy looks different for everyone. In broad strokes- we will invite you to take a deeper look inward in order to make self-discoveries and insights that lead to healing. Deep diving into the internal psyche, past traumas and what your relationships with others and yourself looks like will paint a picture of where your points of pain are and how healing can begin.
